So, Battlestar Galactica. They really should just rename it the Watch
Kara Thrace Go Crazy Show, because I have begun to understand that's what happens. Think about it. Most characters, between seasons, just go on their merry way and it's like, eh, no biggie, we'll pick up later. KARA, however, goes on a demented vacation to destroyed!Caprica, gets kidnapped and held captive by a twisted cylon who is obsessed with her, and then dies after being counseled by a vision of said cylon that it is The Thing To THEN returns from the dead. For all of the people who think Kara fans are Kara apologists... apologist, really? Do I
have to apologize for her being a fucked-up bitch when it is QUITE CLEAR that she is a
justifiably fucked-up bitch? I don't think so.
With that said, I think I may just like
Kara more the
crazier she gets. I mean, it's not liking her in the simple way I like, say,
Helo, but it certainly keeps things interesting (not that Helo doesn't keep things interesting -- I mean, he had to shoot his wife and then there was that whole Helotown thing and ALSO he's going to be working with Joss, so w00t).
And when Kara climbed out of her
viper, she was
so proud that she'd found Earth. Did you see that
cocky grin she shot Adama? She was like, "bitch, I FOUND your lost planet, so somebody go get me my frakkin top gun mug and pour me one while I lord it over your sorry asses," except then that wasn't
what happened and she was so
confused and
hurt. I wanted to hug her.
I was impressed that Baltar seemed, for the first time in the show, to actually care about somebody
other than himself. It tugged at my heartstrings. Or whatever. But I've seen too much of his selfishness in this show to really believe it. Also, thank frakking god they
shaved that mess off his face. Best moment in the episode.
ALSO: LEE'S
SWEATER OF SWEATERY HOTNESS. DID YOU
SEE IT?
IT WAS HOT.
Roslin staying with Adama = win.
Roslin + Caprica!Six = they need more scenes together.
Lee and Adama watching Starbuck blowing up again and again and again = oh my god, I bet they did that so much after she died, and I bet Lee cried emo tears and went to hug Anders. THIS SO HAPPENED.
Baltar's harem of men, women, and children (child?) = lolz.
Actually, most of this episode = lolz. I was pretty sure BSG "jumped the shark" at the end of the second season ("one year later" plots = shark-jumping, for sure), but much of the third season was decent enough to make me reconsider. AND THEN CAME EPISODE 19/20: ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER. It was enjoyable, yes, but it was enjoyable in the same way
Prison Break is enjoyable. It was ridiculous. I laughed like a laughing thing. And I did the same all throughout this episode as well. The funniest scenes by far were the one where Baltar was "praying" and the woman was all "that's so beautiful! let's have sex!" and he was like "uh?" and then the scene where
Anders was all "
if you're a cylon, you've been one from the start, and that doesn't change who you are" and Kara
looked at him like he had just brought the EXTREME CRAZY and was like "
bitch, if you were a cylon I'd shoot you in the head," and my friends and I were
crying we were laughing so hard.
Poor Anders. He's so hot, and
so confused, and so hot.
Also full of lolitude was the scene where Adama and Roslin were all "THERE COULD BE CYLONS RIGHT HERE OMG"
while standing with Tigh, Tori, and Tyrol.
Also, this episode further confirmed my "BSG = DS9 mk II" theory. I would elaborate on this further except I don't think there's anyone on my f-list who has seen all of
both shows, and I don't want to type it all out if it's just going to not make sense to anyone. But seriously.

IAWTC
And also this: It was enjoyable, yes, but it was enjoyable in the same way Prison Break is enjoyable. It was ridiculous. I laughed like a laughing thing. And I did the same all throughout this episode as well.
I don't think the show is quite the second coming that the critics do, but when it is enjoyable, it is HELLA enjoyable. When it's not - stretches of the second half of season 2 and the second half of season 3 - it's boring at best and unbearable at worst. But as long as Kara, Adama, Roslin, and Caprica Six are around, I am happy.
