So, I don't know how many of you have cottoned on to this, but I
adore the Narnia books and always have.
Prince Caspian is my favorite, followed by
Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Caspian himself has always been my favorite character (other than Tumnus). So seeing the movie was AWESOME. I liked the first movie quite a bit but this one was way, way better.
I liked the way they handled Susan. I wasn't really taken with her in the books or the first movie, but I liked her in this one. I liked that she gave a fake name to that geeky boy. I liked that she liked Caspian, and that Lucy and Ed kind of made fun of her for it. I liked that she ran a little slower than the boys but with just as much enthusiasm. I liked that she fought different, but not
worse. I liked that she was constantly in the thick of things with Peter and Caspian, even though she was wearing a skirt. There were so many things that could have gone wrong with her character that
didn't. I was so, so pleased by this.
I was fond of the bits of Susan/Caspian romance they threw in. Mainly because I like to look at Ben Barnes looking longingly at people, but also because I think they may have been setting it up so that Susan's fate in
The Last Battle (if they ever get that far!) makes sense (though I hope they'll bend canon to bring her through to Narnia in the end, even if it's in a post-credits tag).
I'm still way in love with Ben Barnes, William Moseley, and Skandar Keynes. That Caspian had that Telmarine accent confused me at first because Barnes didn't sound like that in
Stardust, which I have seen approximately seven million times. Partially because Ben Barnes is pretty, but also because Robert de Niro swishing about in frilly dresses is Good Times.
OH! And
Damian Alcazar as
one of the Telmarine lords! I loved that! I had no idea he was in this movie -- well, in ANY English-language movies, really -- so I was thrilled to see him. He should be in every movie.
Now I want Peter/Susan/Caspian fic but the Narnia comms that I've found don't seem to have any. Damn.
Also I cried repeatedly during the movie, just like I do during the book.
