I WAS SO RIGHT. RODNEY IS, QUITE INEXPLICABLY, A SEX GOD.
(I've been really busy and have not yet read all your no doubt amazing fic and posts and so on but as of about an hour ago, most of my commitments have CONCLUDED, which means now I am FREE TO READ. You will be seeing much of me in your comments over the next few days! [I am sadly obsessive about not skipping posts in the journals of people I really like, lol.])
And you're on season 2, right? SEASON THREE IS SO MUCH MORE THE AWESOME. Like, for realz. Not really in terms of plot or seriousness, but sheer all-out wacky? YES. IT HAS PSYCHIC WHALES.
And out of curiosity, what made you go back to SGA after deciding it wasn't for you?
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, MAYBE THE 'I'M SO OBVIOUSLY AWESOME YOU PEONS' THING?
I am so glad to hear that. I thought it was more 'Rachel hasn't been around and answering posts, so I won't' kind of thing. Which is probably unfair on you, but I'm paranoid, what can I say. I did actually write an SGA fic too and all *shuffles feet*
I just started S2, yes. I hoping to find a way to dl S3 when I go back to college, for the simple reason that I'd like to be up to date for S4 in September. I love the whales already but OMG DUET. THE KISS. I ... I HAVE NO WORDS BUT GIVE ME SOME. asfshkjfhaslkjdfhas
Sheer boredom. Just before DH, when it felt like I'd no fic left to write or read in any damn fandom (PoT is like dead) I read some of astolat's fic, starting with Entourage, then SGA. Fell in love with the characters, like you said I would. Rewatched S1, winced my way through the Rising, and now I LOVE Sheppard and want to BE Rodney. Gah. With Ronon in the mix though I don't know who to ship, GUIDE MOI!
OR HIS ILL-DISGUISED GEEKINESS, WHICH IS SEXY LIKE WHAT.
Haha, I wasn't ignoring you. I was taking a math class, having relatives visit, helping my grandparents move out of their house/distribute inheritances/sell off remainder, and cleaning my room to make space for inheritances (this last part is still ongoing). For most of this summer I've had only enough time each day to skim my flist. I did see that you posted SGA fic. That was the first SGA post of yours that I saw and I was MASSIVELY CONFUSED and scrolled wildly through your journal looking for an explanation as to why you suddenly were writing in SGA, lol.
I LIKE RODNEY/RONON. IT IS MY SGA OTP OF UNWRITABILITY. Seriously, I've read about four or five Rodney/Ronon fics that were good... and they were all by the same person. But at the end of season three when shit goes down, Ronon turns to Rodney and is all "I wish I was good at science stuff so I could help out more," and that was a total AKSLDFHSD;L moment for me as I imagined legions of fic wherein Rodney honed Ronon's leet physics skillz until Ronon like, reverse-engineered ZPMs. And then they had gay sex. But yeah. Now I've lost my train of thought. Anyway, Ronon is superhot. I do miss Ford and his crazy gatehopping brothel of mans, though.
I think the fic is the real reason people are in SGA fandom. The show is fun but relentlessly shallow, whereas the fic often has real depth. I love Astolat's stuff. Did you read synecdochic's Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/freedoms_just_another_word.html)? I think I recced that to you once. It's kind of sad but I love it anyway.
You need to furnish me with more recs! I have no idea where to go. BROTHEL OF MANS *ROFL*
Okay so I read this fic just before dinner. I then had to go make gravy so I was staring out at the mountains thinking 'way to write the perfect love' and 'Rodney was HAPPY ANYWAY' and I think I cried into the gravy, and then I got indigestion. When I'd finished it I actually sat back in the deskchair, put my hands over my mouth and made some weird howling noise. It was so understated, really like Rodney just remembered scraps, and OH.
I didn't quite buy the OMG SGC IS EBOL bit - planting bugs?! - but it was a minor issue.
I'm also watching the extras on Beckett's actor - he was saying McKay's actor kept ringing him up before Duet because he wanted to 'make out' - I LOVE THAT EPISODE AND THEIR REACTIONS TO IT DO THEY REALISE EVERYONE THINKS IT WAS HOT? I think they all have a certain cuteness, although Ronon and John are meteorically hot. I want to wrestle Ronon. >.>
You are an incredibly talented graphic-er, but I've told you that afore. :DD
Oh god, the SGA actors are all so adorable. I love listening to the commentaries and watching the interviews and so on. Normally I HATE anything like that but the SGA actors are all such nerds that I just find it incredibly endearing. And yeah, theres the bit about Ronon being, as you said, "meteorically hot."
Recs. Okay. I can do that. In a very unorganized fashion. My desktop computer with all my bookmarks is currently not working, so this is just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head, since I only have like two things that aren't even very good bookmarked on my laptop for SGA. And, uh, keep in mind that the fic I like most is just this side of ridiculous (or, actually, maybe it crossed the line and went way over to the other side, I don't know, SGA makes me all YES, YES, BRING OUT YOUR CRAZY). There are some serious fics recced, of course, but I think most of them are in the general author recs.
First, to hit you with the hammer of obviousness, resonant8, astolat, julad, and helenish all write wonderful things. Helen's normal journal entries are all kinds of hilarious as well, especially this one (http://helenish.livejournal.com/141006.html) on the acting choices of JFlan.
jssangel has written some fics I've enjoyed (the list is here (http://jssangel.livejournal.com/28208.html)), most notably the Ronon "ring-eye" series, which I find outlandishly funny.
I like what siriaevewrites (http://siriaeve.unrealwords.com/) as well.
A Team is Borne (http://svendra.com/fanfiction/lorne.html) by Svendra -- A funny story involving Lorne, who deserves many stories because he is hot, and also a Sensitive Guy (srsly, in season three we learn that he likes to PAINT LANDSCAPES OF ATLANTIS because his mother was an art teacher, or some crazy shiznit like that).
Weapons of Some Distraction (http://shrift.livejournal.com/144919.html) by shrift
Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Denver.html) by cesperanza
In the Hands of Yes (http://hth.gatefiction.com/handsofyes.htm) and Thirteen O'Clock (http://hth.gatefiction.com/13oclock.htm) by hth_the_first -- Rodney/Ronon (her other fic is good as well but these were the first ones I thought of, so they get directly linked to).
Do You Believe In Magic (http://sp23.livejournal.com/134070.html) by sp23
Mythical (http://fiction.vaportraces.com/viewstory.php?sid=25) by z_rayne and its remix, In the Spotlight (the Unicorn Remix) (http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/stories/inthespotlight.html), by icarusancalion
I'm also going to point you to shadowserenity's McShep recs tag (http://shadowserenity.livejournal.com/tag/%5Bfic+recs%5D:+mckay/sheppard). When I'm in school and don't have time to sift through communities for decent things to read, that's where I pull from.
And when in doubt, I find that a good strategy for finding fic is to plug in the fandom and pairing of choice in delicious. That's actually how I refound several of these when I didn't remember who they were by, and just knew keywords like "sga lorne bambi" or "sga john fairy" (don't let these keywords scare you away!). Also, many good things exist at sga_flashfic, harlequin_sga, and reel_sga. Also many bad things, but that is the nature of ... well, the nature of things, in general.
Also, I've been totally spamming your journal with comments. You can watch my incremental progress through your entries unfold before your eyes!
OH HONEY. *is overwhelmed* You went and wrote out all these recs for me! (Methinks not for the first time, when you were trying to convince me initially you did the same.) OH WOW. I've been reading rageprufrock's stuff the last two days, one of them really resonated with me to the point that I've been muttering 'you should buy a couch you know' all day. But anyway. This is like a treasure trove or something! I'm all GLEE.
Word on the commentaries too. The one where Joe says 'in this episode I turn into a bug.' They are just ... cute, yes! I feel a real affection for them because they're not too up themselves. I have to sporfle when they go on about exploring their characters and Deep Acting and what have you, but I think that's an occupational hazard.
Also, I really like watching John kiss people. Not as much as watching Beckett and McKay kiss, obvs, but although I don't totally agree with what you said - that he's a goof with girls - he does have this 'OH WOW I CAN KISS YOU?' naivete to him that is totally endearing.
Too many caps.
I have an addictive personality. SGA is my new drug.
I have a post of vid recs that I'm compiling and it's taking SO long because I feel a responsibility to have great variety and seek out new vidders so that I'm not just reccing things by the same three people, lol. There's a shortlist of vids I think EVERYONE should watch because they're so friggin' awesome, and you'll definitely have to watch those. Hopefully I'll have it posted sometime this week, but I'm moving into school on Tuesday so it might take longer. Although I might just cut it off where I am now and say there will be a "part two" in a while.
And I'm afraid I've just inundated you with comments. I've had so little fandom time recently that it was the only way. Now to catch up on everyone else's journals...
