i love star trek so much, and you should too

God, just, I have a million other things I want to post about, but all I can think about is how HAPPY I am that everyone on my flist is loving Star Trek. It and Star Wars were my first fandoms (I discovered them in the same day, so I don't think either one can really come first) and they will always be my favorites, and so it fills me with joy to think that the fandom is getting this new infusion of enthusiasm. It might not last but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy it while I can!

And the best, best, BEST part about this is that it's renewing my enthusiasm for Star Trek. I feel like I could power through every series on DVD in just days. This is, of course, a mad delusion, because there are 29 seasons of Star Trek total, and at my fastest pace I can only watch about two seasons in a week, and my fastest pace has never applied to Star Trek, where my best is like half a season in a week.

I want to challenge myself to watch (rewatch, in most cases) every episode of Star Trek ever in the next year, but I feel this would be suicidally stupid because I also have things like work, family, a social life, school, eating, sleeping, etc to attend to.

(lol but this hasn't stopped me from borrowing TOS from a friend... and buying many of the DS9 novels that I haven't yet read. lollll.)

I'm seriously considering watching TOS now... and before I thought it was too cheesy. BUT NOW I MUST KNOW THE IN JOKES I MISSED IN THE MOVIE.

idk I thought the movies probably would give you enough background for those. But maybe not. I haven't seen that series in foreeeeeevvvver, so.

Last night, I stopped down to watch a Christopher Pike episode of TOS. One of the local channels plays back to back episodes on Sunday night.
I am enjoying the buzz online this has created.

I am finishing watching Leverage and Pushing Daisies then I am going to boldly go and mainline Star Trek until I can trek no more!

(Though I am sad that everyone is being encouraged to watch TOS rather than DS9. laaaaaaaaaaaaame. DS9 is the best.)

I agree. DS9 was the best of the spinoffs. It had a great theme, great characters, and a good flow. Plus, it was easy to get cameos from the other spinoffs on there.

I lost track of Voyager. I didn't watch the last season. I kept thinking, "HURRY UP AND GET BACK!"

I think my favourite things were the gorgeous colours and lights and space battles. Does previous Star Trek have this too?

Sadly, not in the same way. Not for lack of trying, of course, but the original series was from the 60s (SIXTIES) and you know how lame their special effects were, and then the others are all basically 90s tv shows and, uh, 90s special effects look pretty lame by today's standards too. Plus comparing a big-budget movie to tv shows isn't going to go well, lol.

Screencaps (from trekcore):

TOS (1966): one (, two (, three (, four (

TNG (1987): one (, two (, three (

DS9 (1993): one (, two (, three (, four (

VOY (1995): one (, two (

lol obsession.

Sadly I cannot find screencaps of the movie or trailer yet and am just reusing my DS9 icons on all Star Trek posts, lol. But yes, rewatching = awesome!

Star Trek looks good. My parents grew up with it, so they'll drag me along to see it next time I come home, haha. I'm so glad it's revived your love for the fandom- isn't it great when that happens? x]
