Random thought: In Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, why does no one have a daemon that is something unwieldy like an elephant or even a horse or rhinoceros? I just imagine some tiny person with an elephant daemon, trying to walk into buildings and down alleyways WITH THIS HUGE ELEPHANT. And it is hilarious. OR, why don't they have daemons that are water animals? Like, what if somebody's daemon was a dolphin? Would that person always have to live on a boat? THESE QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERING.

not sure about the elephant ones, hehe.
but isn't there one person with a porpoise, or something, and he has to spend all his life at sea.
They have a conversation on what happens if the daemon is a sea creature and they don't wish to spend all time at sea.

I HAVE TOTALLY HAD THIS CONVERSATION.

We just decided that unless the person's daemon was a jerk, it wouldn't choose an illogical form. Though, it follows that if the daemon is a jerk, the person would be too... so maybe it's better they can't go anywhere :P

I definitely remember them talking about someone who had a dolphin daemon when Lyra and the gypsy people (whose actual title I can't remember right now) were on the ship. Apparently Pan was playing around as a dolphin and the sailors kind of warned her about this other guy who could never come back to land because his daemon got stuck that way.

I dunno, I would want my daemon to be a rhino. Because, I love rhinos, but, I couldn't really cuddle with one unless it was my daemon!
