man i hate people sometimes.

Oh god, as a result of my obsessive hetshipping in shows where I'm only sort of in a fandom, I am exposed to a lot of really laughable shit when I go look for fic having to do with what I like.

Cases in point:

Torchwood - Gwen/Jack. Does ANYTHING good exist for this ship? If so, I've never seen it. (And guys, shut up. I know you ALL ship Jack/Ianto... but I just don't feel it! I don't! Ianto is adorable, as is Jack, but I GET NO SHIPPY VIBES. Of course, I am also just now starting Season 2, so maybe that will change. BUT AS IT STANDS, Gwen/Jack ftw. Or Jack/Tosh. JESUS CHRIST WITH THE HETSHIPPING ALREADY, I KNOW.)

Heroes - Peter/Claire. Because it brings the incest shippers to the yard, it doesn't suck as much as it COULD, but there is still a lot of teenage angsty stuff. I swear, like half the stuff I've seen has Peter and/or Claire cutting themselves because they are LIEK SO TOTALLY DEPRESSED OMG and then, you know, healing. And I'm like WHAT THE FRAK MAN WHERE DO YOU EVEN GET YOUR IDEAS?!?

Bones - Booth/Brennan. Bones, being an episodic non-scifi show, gets a lot of pretty lame fans. Lame fans who can make decent graphics, but NOTHING ELSE. I've read two B/B fics that I enjoyed, and one of those I mainly enjoyed only because it generally had correct spelling and punctuation and a notable lack of babies. (My other Bones ships are Angela/Hodgins and Angela/Brennan. Also Sweets/Jehnt, though this is of course not a REAL ship, since I'm not on the show.)

Nope. Sorry. People either a) hates it or b) likes it and is too afraid to admit it.

It's a complicated ship. Even those that don't like Jack/Ianto, love Rhys (I think you'll see why in S2), so they don't want Gwen to hurt him.

Haha, yeah, I've seen some ranty-rants against Gwen/Jack shippers and nary a good word in for them. Which is kind of weird, IMO, given that it looks (to me) like it's a fairly obvious ship.

And yeah, I don't want Ianto hurt either. But it seems like he's so easily hurt! He's always moping around looking sad and tragic and kind of awkward. Oh god, just yesterday I watched the final ep of season 1, and it is SO CUTE at the end when he holds his hand out for Jack to shake and then Jack hugs and kisses him and Ianto kind of looks confused at first like "why didn't you shake my hand?" And I was there like, "Ianto, you idiot, handshaking is NOT Captain Jack's STYLE, man, do you know nothing!?"

and omg your icon is SO CUTE. I so need a Torchwood icon - I've been periodically capping as I watch whenever I see John Barrowman looking particularly delicious but there's nothing so far that's really calling out to me to be iconned. grrr.

I think for many of us, it became so obvious that it looked like it was being forced on us. So many just became bitter about it.

On a side note, I thought much of that sentiment came from fandom slashers. However, two RL friends who watch TW and have never particpated in a fandom and think slasher is a term for horror movies, both said that they didn't like the idea of the two of them getting together. Both because of Rhys.

Yeah. emo!Ianto was going strong in S1!

JB looks delicious in so many scenes!!

Oh, see, I always forget about Rhys. Like I just did in my above comment. I think it's because I don't see him unless Gwen is suddenly like, "oh, yeah, also I have this boyfriend guy who I live with but never spend any time with" and plus I was totally soured on their relationship after she confessed to cheating on him and then RETCONNED HIM. The poor guy didn't deserve either of those things. At this point in my watching of the show I mainly feel like she should cut him loose so he can go find a normal girlfriend who isn't going to wipe his memory. Also, like 90% of the scenes I can remember him in have him and Gwen fighting about her job or something and so I don't even understand why they are with each other. And I just can't get behind something I don't understand!

And yeah, JB looks delicious in ALMOST EVERY scene. For kicks I started capping him looking UTTERLY RIDICULOUS (in mid-word, mid-flail, listing to the side while running, etc) and I think I may end up with an icon from one of those caps. Because of the lolz, you see. Everyone already knows he's really frakking hot, it's not like I need an icon to tell people that.

Season 2 Torchwood is, in some ways, like a completely different show from Season 1. You will NOT be able to forget Rhys once you've seen it as Gwen's life sort of takes center stage and often upstages the sci-fi parts.

Jack/Ianto are much stronger pairing. Apparently the Tosh/Owen backstory got retconned so that instead of having had a fling, Tosh has much UST over Owen. Also, Gwen/Owen seems to have been retconned out completely. Owen got that really keen personality transplant we'd all asked Santa to bring him. Ianto became a MUCH stronger character.

I'll agree with you that they should have dropped Rhys because of the way they wrote him, Gwen, the Gwen/Rhys bickering, the Gwen/Jack chemistry (I'm not even touching the whole disappearing Gwen/Owen storyline), and the writers' desire to be open to any and all pairings. Alas, they made Rhys more present, more connected than ever, and they made him slightly more lovable.

One doesn't have to ship Jack/Ianto to find Gwen/anyone-who-isn't-Rhys troublesome after Season 2. I'm all for a polyamorous Jack, myself, but I really hate the Jack/Gwen dynamic as it's written. Now, if Rhys discovers that he fancies a three-way with Jack and Gwen next season...well, who could blame him? (Though I don't need any more shots of Rhys's ass, thank you. I'm still scarred from Season 1's glimpse.)

I like the dynamics of s1 Torchwood so hearing that it all changes makes me somewhat skeptical. But I have already acquired the first five episodes so I will forge bravely that far and then re-evaluate. (But then, at one point I decided I didn't much care for s1 and was stuck at the episode after "Random Shoes" for the LONGEST time before deciding last week that I should finish that season of Torchwood since John Barrowman is Really Pretty.)

Owen got that really keen personality transplant we'd all asked Santa to bring him.

*pouts* But I liked angry-frog!Owen.

Though I don't need any more shots of Rhys's ass, thank you. I'm still scarred from Season 1's glimpse.

Having just finished season 1, if you think it was only a glimpse you must be blocking out whole vast swaths of episodes, lol.

Also, Tosh/Owen supposedly had a fling? When did we learn this? I always thought she was just inexplicably lusting after him.

OMG, how did I miss this (and other) posts?? Curses - must've been when I was prepping to go away. Luckily, the spoiler didn't spoil me as we're (TONIGHT!!) up to the end of the first series, so yeah up with the uncle/niece-ology. The Peter/Claire pairing was one that blinked on in my head very early on...then I got semi-squicked when I found out they were related. But I still get an USTy feel from them in the show.

I'm a bit anti-Gwen (you might have noticed). I'm willing to let her grow on me in S2, but she didn't do a thing for me in S1. It's a bit like Rose with the Doctor - she didn't click for me till about halfway through Dr Ten's first series...all very late!

Oooh, if you're up to the end of the first season then when I start doing my vid recs again (hopefully this week!) you can watch the Heroes ones, since I don't think any are spoilery for the second season!

And yeah, Peter/Claire. I ship it. Which is strange because I'm weirded out by the fact that the actors who play them are dating. I'm always "Milo and Hayden, isn't he like, waaaaaaaay older than her? Isn't she like fifteen? Shouldn't someone STOP THAT or something?" Yet I am extremely intrigued by their fictional incestuous UST. Although maybe part of it is that if they're like Adam, they'll (probably) live forever, and if you believe in "til death do us part," that doesn't give Claire many options. Just Peter or Adam, basically, and one of those is clearly less insane (if more emo) than the other.

Now, I'm only in S1 of Doctor Who (though I've also seen a few of the Donna episodes and then the Kylie christmas special) but I'm not that fond of Rose. Or the ninth doctor. The tenth doctor, however... ooh la la. Basically.
