God, just, I have a million other things I want to post about, but all I can think about is how HAPPY I am that everyone on my flist is loving Star Trek. It and Star Wars were my first fandoms (I discovered them in the same day, so I don't think either one can really come first) and they will always be my favorites, and so it fills me with joy to think that the fandom is getting this new infusion of enthusiasm. It might not last but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy it while I can!
And the best, best, BEST part about this is that it's renewing my enthusiasm for Star Trek. I feel like I could power through every series on DVD in just days. This is, of course, a mad delusion, because there are 29 seasons of Star Trek total, and at my fastest pace I can only watch about two seasons in a week, and my fastest pace has never applied to Star Trek, where my best is like half a season in a week.
I want to challenge myself to watch (rewatch, in most cases) every episode of Star Trek ever in the next year, but I feel this would be suicidally stupid because I also have things like work, family, a social life, school, eating, sleeping, etc to attend to.
(lol but this hasn't stopped me from borrowing TOS from a friend... and buying many of the DS9 novels that I haven't yet read. lollll.)
My mother is such a bad enabler of my fannish habits. I was talking about my plans to see Star Trek at the midnight showing, and how I was going to wear my Star Trek communicator badge pin (Voyager style), and she goes, "What's the rest of your costume?" When I replied that I was not WEARING a costume, she responded with horror and immediately decided I would HAVE to find/make a red miniskirt outfit like Uhura's. SO. I will probably be doing that. lol.
So I have all these wallpapers that I've made over the past few years and that I was always too lazy to make previews for and post. So the other day I posted them all on my insanejournal, and because I have been too broke to renew my webserving atm I used imageshack to host them. Yes, imageshack, which has AUTOMATIC THUMBNAIL PREVIEWS, which I did not realize until today. So that's pretty sweet. Also pretty sweet? THESE WALLPAPERS. You should check them out. Because they are AWESOME.
(Note: most of these have vast swaths of empty space that can be chopped off/allowed to go off the edge for 4:3 monitors.)preview:
( fandoms include bsg, bones, buffy, firefly, harry potter, st: ds9, star wars, supernatural, and attractive actors )
And yet while I put forth the effort to post these here, I am too lazy to actually post them in my icon journal and promote them. Oh well. I'll do that later. It's a multi-stage rollout, I guess.
So, I've been seeing people's icon posts lately and decided I should post some icons to try to get constructive criticism. It would be greatly appreciated since I haven't been participating in icontests/lims lately (my time is taken up by schoolwork!) and thus feel like I'm losing perspective on what might be good/bad about my icons. Also I just wanted to post them somewhere before I get my website back online and have the time to post them at iconzero.
arranged chronologically newest to oldest: ( a few more plus a question )
So, I've been sort of making icons off and on lately, so in two weeks when I have winter break there will likely be zillions of icon posts... but this is some of what I did today:
Deeeeeeeean. I don't even watch Supernatural anymore, but whatever. And the return of the blocky white font! I have a love/hate relationship with it. I think it works on that icon, but most of the time I use it as a crutch (see below).
lol, most useless icons ever. Exploding console + drinking. Oh god, why do I even bother? Rhetorical question. I do it for the pretty.
I watched Battlestar Galactica: Razor the other day. Admiral Cain scares me. Despite this, I am madly in love with her. Probably because Michelle Forbes is so awesome. I think there needs to be more M.Forbes on shows I watch.
Since it's tangentially relevant, I am going to list my top ten fictional television/movie girlcrushes:
1. Kira Nerys of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
2. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace of Battlestar Galactica*
3. Princess Leia Organa of Star Wars
4. Veronica Mars of Veronica Mars
5. Winifred Burkle of Angel
6. Mulan of Mulan
7. Sydney Bristow of Alias
8. Lucille Bluth and Lindsay Funke of Arrested Development (I'm cheating here. Oh well.)
9. Laura Roslin of Battlestar Galactica
10. Vala Maldoran of Stargate: SG-1
Hmm. I'm finding it strange that there are only two movies listed in there, but I have noted before that I find it easier to find tv shows with female leads I admire more than movies. There are plenty of likeable female leads in movies, but few that make me leap out of my chair and cheer. Also, I suppose that you could substitute the word "girlcrush" with "role model," but I'm not sure what it says about me that heavy in the ranks are violent, vengeful, drunk, unstable narcissists. Oh well. I suppose most of them save the world on at least a semi-frequent basis, so they've got that going for them.
*Is it a coincidence that Ron Moore, who created new!BSG, also worked on DS9? I THINK NOT. Kara is CLEARLY a Kira knockoff. (The funny thing is that I have a whole theory about how BSG = DS9, and Kara isn't even Kira in it.)
